Mainenance Technician

The Mechanical Maintenance Technician is a day position at the Marietta polystyrene plant typically working days. A 9/80 compressed work week schedule may be available. The job will require overtime work and extended hours on weekends, nights and holidays depending on plant needs. Knowledge and use of a PC work station, use of a computerized maintenance work order system, the ability to safely and responsibly troubleshoot and repair equipment in an operating chemical plant is required. Specialized maintenance and mechanical skills are needed as outlined below.Primary Responsibilities: Troubleshoot and repair rotating and reciprocating equipment including blowers, pumps, fans, valves, gearboxes, extruders, mixers, agitators, blenders, heaters, HVAC and other process equipment. Familiarity and expertise in a variety of mechanical techniques/procedures such as equipment alignment use of various measurement tools and other mechanical diagnostics instruments. Knowledge and expertise for installation of bearings, seals, couplings and rotating shaft assemblies. General mechanical repair including welding, machining and fabrication. Analyze and problem solve malfunctioning equipment (ex. differentiating between an equipment problem and a process problem). Document/record work history for maintenance files and return equipment to operations. Assist with maintenance planning and procedure development/updates. Advocate for safe work and adhere to all safe work standards, procedures and housekeeping practices. Operate mobile cranes and be certified as both an operator and a rigger. Operate aerial lifts and forklifts as necessary to complete work. Support minor mechanical design and project work as well as turnarounds. Provide work direction to contractor crews. Working closely with other departments, customers and peers as necessary to ensure they are provided with quality maintenance services. Identifying ways to reduce cost of repairing equipment while maintaining or increasing the quality of repairs and increasing the reliability of the equipment. Performing all duties with a high degree of dedication to safety and environmental stewardship. Requirements High school diploma is required. Mechanical maintenance experience such as millwright, machinist and mechanical repair in a chemical, refining, or industrial plant. This plant experience should include troubleshooting and repair of pumps, compressors, gear boxes fans and blowers. Experience of 3-5 years or more is desired. Working knowledge of rim and face, reverse indicator alignment, laser alignment techniques, and detecting/correcting soft foot. Working knowledge of mechanical seals, flush pans and seal failure analysis. Capable of basic structural welding. Has pipefitting skills both welded and threaded. Knowledge of basic machining including lathes, mills and presses. Ability to read equipment prints, secure information from OEM manuals, and proficiency with measurement tools (micrometers, dial calipers etc.). Possesses basic computer skills to interface with maintenance management system and basic Microsoft office knowledge. Must be a self-starter and sell-motivated. Capable of working and communicating effectively with others. Able and willing to take call-ins and work overtime hours. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Work involves climbing stairs and ladders. The Operating Technician is primarily a 12-hour rotating shift job operating the Marietta polystyrene plant.  Job requires knowledge and use of computer operating (DCS) system, knowledge and use of a work station, use of the computerized maintenance work order system, and the ability to safely and responsibly operate the plant using standard operating procedures and work processes.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Performing routine operation of basic control systems and devices to monitor levels, temperatures, pressures and flow rates and transfer of products.

Packout Operator @ Uti

The Packout Operator is responsible for post-extrusion processing, packaging of material and miscellaneous off-line job requests. Other duties include but are not limited to: scanning, moving, staging, replenishing, bagging, boxing, stretch wrapping, and labeling product. The Packout Operator is also responsible for inspecting product and documenting/communicating when there is contamination, damages or discrepancies. The Packout Operator is accountable for the safe and efficient operation of the forklift, and will be expected to perform other duties as assigned by site management.

Packaging Responsibilities
 

  • The packout functions include but are not limited to: following direction of Shift Manager, Supervisor, or Extruder Operator, when applicable, operating area bag or box line machinery and all associated equipment, maintain and complete required paperwork for proper product identification and traceability, make, label, and handle rework boxes, using a forklift to move inventory to proper ware house locations, labeling and disposition of partial and non-standard boxes, follow production schedule and assigned duties to ensure that activities are performed effectively and production needs are met, set up packaging supplies (build boxes, retrieve pallets, stage bags, build lids, install liners, etc.).

In addition, the operator will be expected to learn additional support skills such as maintenance, safety leadership, administration skills, and computer support skills. The specific requirements for each assignment are described in the Butacite® Progression System. It is important that each person in the flake area work together as a team to routinely operate the process, cover planned and unexpected absences, troubleshoot and solve process problems quickly and effectively, and to provide routine relief for breaks and lunch.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist and support the Flake Process by operating the Condensation Kettles and associated equipment to supply PVB batches to our Flake Drying process which is our final product. To assist other area operators as needed by working in a team effort to accomplish all tasks associated with the Flake Process to insure quality feed for the Flake Drying Process.

  • Assist and support the Flake process by conducting chemical and physical laboratory tests to assist technical in making qualitative and quantitative analyses of solids or processes, quality control, maintenance of environmental standards, and other work involving experimental, theoretical, or practical application of chemistry and related sciences.

  • The Chemical Operator will also be responsible for unloading of all Raw Materials that are critical to keeping the process running.

  • Assist and support the Flake Process by monitoring and performing tasks to assist the Condensation Operator so that quality feed for Flake Drying is maintained by working in a team effort to insure quality feed for the Flake Process.(MUST assist other operators by going to top of PVA Tower [including ship ladder] and changing PVA bag filters).

  • Control and coordinate the flake drying process and related activities necessary to maintain the facilities, upgrade the process capability and supply the dry flake to meet production demands.

  • Coordinate flake supply and quality with the Flake Process, container availability and shipment with transportation and shipment, and packaging, inventory control and quality results with supply chain personnel.

  • Perform other duties as determined by management.

  • Attendance is an essential function of the job.

  • Must be at the workstation at the beginning of the shift.

  • Must continuously follow all safety policies and procedures on the job.

  • Maintain an awareness of and use Good Manufacturing Practices.

  • For safety and business purposes, must have communication skills including reading, writing and must be able to communicate to others as well as be able to receive communication from others.

    Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required

  • Prior forklift experience preferred

  • Prior hazardous material training preferred but not required

Maintenance Mechanical/Electrical Technicians will work independently and with other plant personnel to safely perform preventative, predictive and routine maintenance tasks. They are responsible for maintaining, repairing and rebuilding various production machines and equipment. QUALIFICATIONS
