Advanced Emergency Medical Technician

Students will have the opportunity to become a certified Advanced Emergency Medical Technician. Students learn how to:

Use different pieces of prehospital equipment,
Perform prehospital assessments of sick and injured patients,
Work with EMS agencies and Emergency Room Personnel

Students learn critical thinking skills necessary to perform emergency medical interventions in the prehospital environment.

The program is 28 weeks consisting of 220 classroom hours, 90 clinical hours (30 hospital and 60 ambulance hours).

In addition to these hours, the student must complete the minimum skills that are required as stated in the documentation booklet.

Students will learn advanced skills including Intravenous Therapy, Medication Administration, and basic EKG Interpretation. During training, student will ride along in an ambulance and perform within the state of Ohio AEMT scope of practice, under the direct supervision of another Ohio certified AEMT or Paramedic.

Supply Cost

  • Students will be responsible for the following items through Emergency Training Academy.
    The instructor will provide detailed information on fees and clinical requirements on the first day of class.

  • Books

  • Completed Background Check

  • Physical Exam

  • Copy of vaccinations to include:

  • 2-step TB, Rubella Titer, Varicella Titer and Hepatitis B.

  • Copy of Driver’s License or State ID

  • Complete NIMS 100 & 700 courses

  • National Registry Testing Fee ($100)

  • Testing / Review Software ($45)

  • Black or Blue Pants or BDU’s (students will be provided a polo shirt to be worn in clinical).

Certifications Received

All students who successfully complete the minimum requirements will be eligible to sit for the National Registry Cognitive and Practical skills exam. Upon completion of all course work, and successfully passing these exams, the student will become certified a National Registry and Ohio Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
